Vania’s brother and Frank collect hockey cards and when Vania and her brother bought a house together, they started “Bbq Wednesday’s” where Frank made frequent appearances. Soon after that, Frank was a house staple for not just hockey cards.

Vania and Frank are laid back and a ton of fun! They wanted their photos to be relaxed and candid and in the heart of their neighbourhood which is also my neighbourhood; the Junction. We had a blast shooting with the full bridal party, wandering around in back alleys, the local ice cream joint and even No Frills. This no fuss group enjoyed every moment and even Frank, who doesn’t enjoy being photographed, lasted a patient 2 hours! I was impressed.

Documenting Vania and Frank was easy. Frank makes Vania laugh out loud every minute. Sometimes with a dry joke, and other times he barely utters a word. She is clearly head over heels for this genuinely sweet man.

Often times shy or photographically challenged couples approach me with worry about their wedding day but I always encourage them that a candid approach works….and well. Sometimes, these shy couples even work wonders for the camera, because they are just truly themselves. This is why Frank turned out to be an easy subject. He didn’t act for the camera, he just was himself. Shooting candidly does require finesse. I still make directions, choose my composition and areas where light is of the utmost importance. After all that is chosen, I then get couples to interact with one another in a real way. This in my opinion beats shooting something purely docu-style because I still want the shot to be void of any ugliness in the background, bad direction of light or people blocking one another.

Overall this day was really enjoyable for everyone involved. Vania and Frank wanted the day to be about family and friendship, going with the notion that less is more.

You were both a pleasure.

xx – april

Angela and Lee’s wedding was a sweet and tear-filled day. The couple decided to revolve their day around greenery and the waterfront which led them to choose the Burlington Golf and Country Club as their reception location. Lee being from England had many of his family and friends come to Canada to enjoy in the celebration. Unfortunately, his father couldn’t make it due to a medical issue but that didn’t stop him from being involved in his son’s important day. His father Skype him in the morning as Lee got ready and sent him well wishes. It was a warm gesture that I am sure stayed with Lee and his family all day.  He was truly there in spirit. The day continued on with the theme of the importance of family, friends and unity. The speeches of the evening came deep from the heart and touched everyone in the room. It is always such a pleasure to feel such a positive energy from a group of people who clearly all love and admire one another very much.

Angela and Lee are well suited for each other. Angela is a mile a minute chatter box and a lovely one at that! She has such an inviting personality that makes you feel like you’ve known her for years. Lee slows Angela down when she needs it and has a great sense of Brit-humour! They are certainly a pair whose infectious energy is pulsating. Angela and Lee both loved getting their photos taken and reveled in the extra moments where I stole them from the party to photograph them under the stars and surrounded by city lights and its reflection on the water. They were some shots definitely worth leaving the party for!

Good luck to both of you in your future endeavors together! I had a blast getting to document your special day.
